Well, it is no good pretending-it was wonderful. Originally we were going skiing at Northstar in the Sierras but total lack of snow put paid to that idea. So instead we had 70 degrees and glorious sunshine while the rest of country shivered. So daughter Annabelle and I thought how about Sevastopol? Not that one, this is in Sonora county about an hour’s drive from TACH winter headquarters, Belvedere California.

We headed for the much publicized Gravelstein apple farm. As you can see from the photos we missed the boat, the Apple fair was held August. Hale’s farm just outside the town ( population 7750 ) was bereft of apple but they were kind enough to leave some in a basket. They still tasted just fine!
Our next call was The Barlow. It is a concrete jungle with wonderful produce and lots of very friendly people.
The parking was equally friendly as it was free without a time limit! How civilized is that. Cannot pretend that the Range Rover didn’t get some admiring glasses, it is a serious class act.
The Barlow complex is well worth a visit, lots of little shops, the sort you would find in Point Reyes but without a Million tourists milling around. Bakeries, local wine, groceries at half the price of what you pay around where we live just a very nice experience .
This Range Rover has a presence. Not overstated, not understated, just right. I have driven many Range Rovers over the years, some great, some not so great but most importantly I’ve yet to come to a girding halt in one for mechanical reasons.

Some I would have preferred with more power and some info systems were maddening but all in I’ve always been delighted to see one pull into our parking lot at The Auto Channel’s California winter office. This one was no exception.
But, without further ado on to our next destination- Cozy Plum “ a new American restaurant” . Had we not looked very hard we would never have found it!
It is tiny but with a tremendous reputation which we doubted until the food arrived. The vegan bowl was huge, we needed a box to take half of it home while my vegetarian sandwich was -hand on heart-the. Best I’ve ever had.

Fresh roll, tomato, avocado, onion, feta, lettuce...a Michelin star production. And no, there was no need for a box, I ate The lot.
Soon it was time to head home. Serene is the best word to describe the Range Rover, it was gliding along. It is a 7 seater although the back two are strictly for flexible adults or children.
How it would cope 7 up I don’t know, maybe with a more powerful engine which the company does have and which is a beauty.
The icing on the cake was yet to come. Most of you will have heard of Edith Piaf the unforgettable French singer who captivated the World for decades.
After a quick change it was time to head for some culture. There is a lady impersonator by the name of Nathalie Lermitte. She has done literally hundreds of performances always finishing with Piaf’s signature song La vie en rose.
I was lucky to spot that she was going to be in town at the truly adorable Presidio theatre. A far cry from that dump the Orpheus. Appalling. Anyway two clicks, two tickets. Told some friends-sorry , sold out.
Getting there in the Range Rover driving across an almost empty Golden Gate Bridge, turning right into the Presidio far and away the nicest part of San Francisco and a great show. Standing ovation of course.

The verdict-one size too big for me and pretty expensive. With all the bells and whistles this baby would take you back $147 thousand dollars.
Clearly there are cheaper alternatives so pop into your local dealer and start haggling!
