Belvedere California January 31, 2026; I have not enjoyed anything on four wheel as much as I did in the Lucid.
The version I had costs 102 thousand dollars. From an engineering point of view it is worth every cent. Goes like smoke, there is one version which does 0-60 in two seconds and the one I had wasn’t much slower either. Lightening is the word. Power delivery is smooth And the handling is brilliant.
I took it on some winding roads down to the favorite destination just under the Golden Gate Bridge and the steering was razor sharp. Braking on those amazing Michelin tires is as good as most sports cars.
This being an EV the question of range in variably comes up. No worries here, we are talking about 400 miles. That is great Unless you are struck on I-95 in a massive storm with the heating on full blast.
I should point out that the Grand Touring Lucid Air set a Guinness book of records by traveling 749 miles on one Public road charge. Condition were of course ideal and the drivers were professional using minimal power and taking Advantage of even the slightest hill.
The Lucid has a 700 volt architecture which supports fast charging!
Trust me I know what rage(range) anxiety is all about. Two years ago we crawled into the Sacramento Mercedes people with zero Miles left. Apparently it had something to do with enthusiastic driving.
The Lucid with fast charges can be ready to run With up to 300 miles in 20 minutes which most people would want to use for a bathroom break. The suspension set-up Is first class, living in Belvedere every winter I can testify as our roads are appalling. So if you are in our part of the world see drivers zig-zagging it isn’t that we had to much to drink, it is simply to avoid punctures.
The materials Lucid use are definitely upmarket, no shortcuts here. I’ve only had the Lucid for 48 hours so I am Sure I’ve missed several details. One thing I’ve found was the seat massage which works for 20 minutes at a time.
Driving the Lucid to FORZA magazine’s HQ in Novato I did expect a more silent ride and at lower speeds With the window down there was an annoying faint whine.
The problem the Lucid has in money. As in funds. Most of the money comes from the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund. LIke all EV manufacturers Lucid is losing money on every car it sells. Not 19 billion like Ford Motor Company but Enough for it to be a concern.
I should point out that the cars and SUVs are designed and made in the United States And the truly excellent engineers are working flat out to produce a less expensive version. I wish them every success Because basically the product is first class and deserves to succeed.
Right now you can buy the basic version for about 65 thousand dollars, there are lots of second hand Lucids to be had for around 45 thou.
Happy motoring!
