Our First Hyundai Review - 1994 Hyundai Elantra

This afternoon I was checking on some of our archived car reviews and came across a review by Annabelle Frankl of a 1999 Hyundai Elantra GLS Wagon. What is interesting to me is the first paragraph:

Here is what Ms. Frankl wrote about the 1999 Hyundai Elantra she reviewed:

If you're a name-brand kind of consumer, then the chances are that you're not going to rush out and buy a Hyundai. It just not the kind of name that trips off the tongue, inspiring envy and commanding attention. However, this South Korean company, which first launched in the USA in 1986, has been building a small following in the cheap-but-reliable marketplace, offering no-frills vehicles which include many, normally paid-for, options as standard, and handle pretty well, considering the price you're paying.

Hyundai has sure come a long way since 1999 don't ya think?

I thought you might like to peruse 25 years of Hyundai Reviews by Auto Channel Journalists... have fun.

About Hyundai

Hyundai refers to a group of companies and related organizations founded by Chung Ju-yung in South Korea. The first Hyundai company was founded in 1947 as a construction company, and the Hyundai Group eventually became South Korea's largest conglomerate company.

The most well-known Hyundai organization is the Hyundai Motor Company, the world's 5th largest automaker selling mid sized sedans and SUV's like the Sonata and the Santa Fe.

The Hyundai Group underwent massive restructuring following the 1997 East Asian financial crisis and the founder's death in 2001. Today, many companies bearing the Hyundai name are legally unrelated, with each company having a different chairman. Former components include Hyundai Group, Hyundai Kia Automotive Group, Hyundai Department Store Group, Hyundai Heavy Industries Group, and Hyundai Development Group.

The word "hyeondae (hyundai)" means "modernity" in Korean.
