Designed for style-conscious buyers with an active lifestyle and a greater need for versatility, the new Sportwagon offers enhanced functionality without compromising Jaguar style and driving dynamics. The X-TYPE Sportwagon is completely redesigned from the B-pillars back resulting in lines that are long and striking. The Sportwagon is the ultimate in chic practicality with cavernous cargo capacity and an impressive list of standard features including permanent Traction-4 all-wheel drive and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC). For 2005, the 3.0 offers customers even more choice with a new package structure that allows buyers to select the features they want without paying for those they don't. The entry into the Jaguar family, the X-TYPE is the only premium compact sedan in its class to offer standard all-wheel drive for all-weather performance. In 2004, Jaguar became the highest ranked European luxury carmaker in America, placing third overall in J.D. Power's 2004 Initial Quality Survey and demonstrating Jaguar's on-going commitment to improve quality. For the X-TYPE this study was particularly rewarding because, since its launch in 2001, the X-TYPE has improved 32 percent in Initial Quality. In the last year alone, the X-TYPE initial quality improved 13 percent over the previous year's model.
Jaguar was also recently recognized in the latest J.D. Power and Associates APEAL (Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout) Study, showing significant improvement. Jaguar was one of two brands to achieve the greatest improvement among the luxury nameplates surveyed, rising in the ranking by three places, from eighth in 2003 to fifth in 2004. The APEAL Study, which measures owner delight with the design, content, layout and performance of their new vehicles, suggests Jaguar is able to build beautiful cars packed with intuitive technologies that are easy for the customer to use.
Safety
Safety continues to be a top priority for Jaguar and the X-TYPE is no exception having performed well in all federally required crash tests. The X-TYPE meets or exceeds all current legislative requirements and in addition, has achieved 'Best Pick' status from the independent Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in its frontal crash test scenario. Also, last year X-TYPE went through the federal National Highway Transport and Safety Administration's (NHTSA's) side impact crash test, and achieved an excellent 'Four Star' rating.
Philosophically, Jaguar builds cars that aid in avoiding accidents, so the X-TYPE is equipped with an array of standard 'active' safety equipment including Traction-4(TM) all-wheel drive and four-wheel, anti-lock disc brakes with Electronic Brake force distribution as well as optional Dynamic Stability Control. When accidents do occur, Jaguar X-TYPE passengers are protected by the standard passive safety features: dual front airbags with front occupant position sensing system, thorax and side curtain airbags, driver's side inflatable knee bolster airbag, anti-lock brakes with electronic brake force distribution, collapsible steering column and foot pedals, anti-submarining front seats, side impact intrusion bars in the doors and front seatbelts pretensioners with load limiters.
X-TYPE -- A True Jaguar
The X-TYPE is the entry vehicle into the Jaguar family, with all the style, sophistication and luxurious amenities the marque is known for combined with an attractive price point. For 2005, the new package structure and comprehensive Sport and VDP Edition feature collections broaden the appeal of the X-TYPE sedan, while the Sportwagon reaches an entirely new audience in need of more functionality but unwilling to compromise driving dynamics, performance or style.
