LINCOLN SENTINEL

The Lincoln Sentinel reinterprets classic Lincoln design traits using the "Edge" experimental approach to
design that emphasizes exteriors with more sharply defined
corners and lines. "Edge" design is perceived as a possible alternative to more rounded shapes of recent
years and is gaining acceptance by automobile designers.

The Sentinel is a four-door, full-sized rear-wheel drive sedan that is one inch shorter than the 1996 Lincoln
Town Car at 218 inches in length. Large 20-inch wheels
are flush with body panels using a metallic black exterior with a minimum of chrome trim. Other typical
Lincoln design themes reminiscent of early 1960s Lincolns
include a high belt line, blade fenders and a clean side profile. The uncluttered exterior is accented by
vertically-stacked projector headlamps and flush glass all
around.

The Sentinel serves as an experiment in "Edge" design and is helping to identify automobile design issues
that may benefit from this approach. "Edge" design is
expected to result in improved road holding and interior space characteristics in the future.
