Calling All Race Fans! Are You the DieHard Race Fan of the Year? DieHard Puts Fans to the Test

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill.--(BW SportsWire)--April 24, 1999--It's not often that the most dedicated racing fans are recognized for their endless racing knowledge -- until now. Beginning this weekend at the DieHard 500 and continuing through November, DieHard is recognizing the most knowledgable racing fans each and every week with the DieHard Race Fan of the Year contest.
Following the week-to-week search, one lucky fan will be named the official "DieHard Race Fan of the Year." The contest will search for the nation's most DieHard Fans via a "Question of the Week" format and then will pit a select few fans against each other in a "race of knowledge" for the national title. The national winner, determined from a pool of three top finalists, will win the rare opportunity to serve as the Honorary Starter at the year 2000 DieHard 500 at Alabama's Talladega Superspeedway and also will receive the coveted DieHard Race Fan of the Year trophy.
"This year's contest provides us with an opportunity to honor racing fans everywhere," said John Lebbad, director of event marketing for Sears. "This contest gives racing fans across the country a chance to be recognized for their racing dedication and know-how."

What's Your Answer?

DieHard -- along with racing specialists at Motor Racing Network (MRN) -- will ask race fans across the country the question of the week during MRN broadcasting and also will post the question on the Sears Web site at www.sears.com/motorsports.
Fans then submit their answers by mail on a 3" x 5" card to the provided address. Each week, MRN will randomly select one "Question of the Week" winner who will be announced during a live broadcast and will receive official DieHard Racing gear. In addition, weekly winners automatically qualify for a chance to be one of three finalists to participate in the DieHard Winners Circle to vie for the "DieHard Race Fan of the Year" national title.

Getting to the DieHard Winner's Circle

At the end of the season, three lucky finalists will be randomly selected from the year-long pool of weekly winners to participate in the "DieHard Winners Circle" head-to-head competition taking place in Daytona in February, 2000, surrounding the Daytona 500 festivities. The competition pits the three finalists against each other for the prize of their life -- The DieHard Race Fan of the Year.
