Car of the Week - July 2, 2001

2001 Mazda B4000

2001 is a power year for the Mazda B series of compact trucks and the top of its line, the B4000 now has a hefty 4.0L SOHC V6 engine -(the same one found in Ford's Explorer) with 207 horsepower and 238 foot-pounds of torque. So you'll have no prob with your heavier towing (up to 6,000 pounds).

These practical trucks provide a good firm ride - quite comfortable for a compact pickup. The optional four-wheel drive has a shift-on-the-fly system featuring pulse vacuum hub-lock technology, allowing the driver to engage four-wheel drive at speeds up to 70 mph (although the only reason for doing so at that speed would probably be some form of high speed chase - in which case, why are you making your getaway in a compact truck?!
