Daewoo Mya

by Paul Negyesi

The Koreans started a design war: first it was Hyundai with the new (E)Lantra and the Coupé. Now it's Daewoo with the European-designed Mya. It was introduced at the British Motor Show.

Daewoo will soon launch a whole new breed of models to replace the ageing retouched General Motors-based range. They figured out that they'll need a Hyundai Coupé competitor so they comissioned their British design centre to create one.
It's based on the floorpan of the new Daewoo family car. It's powered by a 96 kW (130 bhp) 2-litre engine. The gullwing doors would be highly unusual for a "mass"-produced sportscar. The Mercedes Gullwing days are over. Or Daewoo thinks otherwise?
