1969 saw improvements and refinements rather than any major changes on the Corvette. Quality control on the 1968 model was considered poor so there were numerous improvements. In addition, the 1968 Corvettes, particularly the 427 powered cars, were prone to overheating- and there were improvements to increase airflow through the radiator. It was obvious that the new body design had caught on- sales were up considerably from 1968, but interestingly, sales of the Coupe outpaced those of the Convertible. In 1969, once again the Corvette was called Stingray, but this time, the designation was one word (from 1963-67, it was Sting Ray) and the lettering was placed above the side fender louvers.

Other improvements included the addition of wider wheels, now measuring 15x8". Wheel selection itself was unchanged; the Rally wheels were standard, with the Deluxe Wheel Covers optional.

One quick way to spot a 1969 from a 1968 was the 69's lack of a push button door release. In the interior, the ignition swith was relocated to the steering column and the door panels were made thinner at the top in order to increase interior room.

The standard engine in 1969 was no longer the 327 c.i. Chevy V-8. A stroked version, displacing 350 cubic inches replaced the 327, but output was still 300hp. The standard transmission with the 300hp engine was still the good old three-speed manual, but this was the last year for it. All other optional 1969 engines got the four-speed manual.

The largest small block option was the L46, rated at 350hp. 427 big-block availability was the same as in 1968, with one addition. The ZL1 engine, of which only two were ever installed, was identical to the 430hp L88 but used aluminum heads and an aluminum cylinder block. It was an expensive option by 1969 standards, costing $4,718.35. The base price for the Corvette Coupe in 1969 was $4,781.00

Other 427 big-block production was as follows:L36 390hp-10,531, L68 400hp-2,072, L71 435hp-2,722, L88 430hp-116, L89 430hp-116 The L68 and L71 engines used the Holley three two-barrel intake setup, while the L89 was the same engine as the L71, but fitted with aluminum cylinder heads.
