Plymouth's foray into high performance also included full-size cars. Not many were sold, but it did show the Division's belief that performance sold. The 1970 Sports Fury GT was designed to combined luxury and performance in a big car. Two versions were made, the GT S/23 and the GT.

Based on the 2dr Fury hardtop, standard engine on the S/23 was the 318 c.i. V-8 with optional engines ranging from the 383 c.i. 2V, 383-4V and the Super Commando 440-4V rated at 350 hp. Standard on the Fury GT was the 440-4V with only one optional engine, the 440 Six bbl engine rated at 390 hp. All Fury S/23s and GTs were equipped with the Torqueflite automatic transmission. The S/23 designation appeared on the rear deck lid.

Visually, both models had the same side strobe tape treatment and hood runner stripes. The hood also incorporated two power bulges, and the GT also got chrome exhaust tips. H70x15 tires on steel road wheels were standard with the 440 engines, however, those cars equipped with the 318 and 383 V-8s could also be upgraded to this size.

The 440 Six bbl engine was the same engine that first appeared on the 1969 Road Runner and Super Bee. Based on the 375 hp Magnum 440, the 390 hp rating was achieved through the use of a 3x2V carburetor setup. The only difference from the 1969 version is the substitution of a cast iron intake manifold rather than the Edelbrock aluminum manifold.
