BMW R 1100 RS (1993-present) |
In 1993, BMW ushered in a new generation of four-valve "boxer" machines with the introduction of the R 1100 RS. For the first time, this BMW motorcycle engine featured an electronic engine management system, antilock braking, and a closed loop, three-way catalytic converter - all first introduced on K Series models - to reduce fuel consumption and control exhaust emissions. In the US, Japan, Australia and several European countries, the new R 1100 RS was voted "Motorcycle of the Year," and it's unique Telelever front suspension was praised as an outstanding innovation. This machine is part of "The Art of the Motorcycle" exhibition at the Guggenheim Museum, New York, made possible by BMW (June 26-Sept. 12, 1998).
