Cars competing in Dakar 97

In the car section, Team Araco has entered 2 cars one of which is for Gérard Sarrazin and one support vehicle; 3 cars and 6 support trucks for the official Mitsubishi T2 team with drivers Bruno Saby, Jean-Pierre Fontenay and Kenjiro Shinozuka. The Schlesser Seat team has entered a total of 4 cars and a trucks into the event, with 2 support trucks. We will of course see Jean-Louis Schlesser at the wheel of one of two buggies, the other is for Jutta Kleinschmidt. As for those making a come-back, of note is that Toyota France who has entered two T2 vehicles. Jacky Ickx returns in a HDJ80 diesel with a charming co-driver, his daughter Vanina. Other entrants who will be with us: a Dane who will be competing for the second time; an English team in an Isuzu competing for the first time; the handicapped Belgian Thierry Jérome who returns (he retired at Tambacounda in 96) at the wheel of his specially adapted Toyota and an amateur team of 35 Japanese who are participating for the first time.
