All Star Results - Sat 3/29 - Dixie, GA
WOODSTOCK, GA - The Frigidaire All Stars annual spring return to Dixie
Speedway Saturday was also a return to victory lane for former All Star
champion Frankie Kerr. Kerr’s winning machine was the familiar orange Stan
Shoff owned, Chevrolet engine powered J&J Chassis No. 23s.
A quick engine change after blowing the engine en route to winning the
Commercial Truck and Trailer Dash enabled Kerr to start from the
ButlerBuilt Hot Seat pole position.
Young Tyler Walker was applying pressure to Kerr, after moving up from
third starting position, when the yellow flew on lap four. Walker made a
pass for the lead with a high side move around Kerr on lap seven. The
Californian continued to lead until Kerr got back past with a low groove
pass on lap 13 in turn one after the leader got trapped behind a lapped
car.
Restarts on laps 18 and 26 did not affect the top two, but the did allow
Keith Kauffman, aboard the United Expressline Doemelt chassis to take third
from Joey Saldana. Kauffman began to pressure Walker and took over the
runner-up spot on lap 27. He chased Kerr to the finish line and finished a
car length back, after getting under Kerr with a lap to go.
Walker’s Air Sep mount fell back to third for the highest finishing GMP
Rookie of the Race, with Dale Blaney up from ninth to fourth and Todd
Gracey fifth in the J&M Motorsports Cook chassis.
Kerr thanked his crew in victory lane for the quick engine change. "The
guys worked their butts off changing motors and getting everything ready.
Right there at the end we were running out of fuel and now they tell me we
have a hole in the right rear tire, so we wouldn’t have made it very far
anyway."
Fast qualifier Kauffman was happy just to be back racing in a
competitive car after a rocky start to the season. "It’s really a good race
car, And Mike Cool does a heck of a job. It was kind of one groove after
getting some rubber down and I just ran a couple laps short tonight."
Walker said most of his problems were due to tire selection. "We just
made a little bit of a wrong selection and should have had on a little bit
harder tire. It just went away on us at the end."
The United Expressline heat went to Kenny Jacobs, the Southwest
Expressline heat to Terry McCarl and the Southwest Glass heat to Blaney.
James Fisher won the United Expressline B Main.
