Results: Round 4 of the Australian Touring Car Championship

MAR 17, 1996 SYMMONS PLAINS, TASMANIA, AUSTRALIA... GM's young sensation "Das Wunderkid" Craig Lowndes retuned to the winners podium with a dominant performance to take round 4 of the 1996 Shell Australian Touring Car Championships at Tasmania's Symmons P lains raceway. It was a red letter day for the General as Lownde's team mate veteran Peter "Dorian Grey" Brock made it a Holden one-two finishing second to his younger teammate in all three heats. Overall third and first Ford home was local hero John Bowe in the Shell/FAI/Dick Johnson Racing Ford Falcon with a third, fifth and fourth to lead home arch rival Glen Seton. Seton took a fourth and a third place in heats two and three after problems in t he first heat. Outside of Lowndes and Brock the racing was extremely close but also somewhat processional. The series organisers and the television networks dream of class parity has created cars now so even that passing is becoming almost non existent. The teams now head north to support the Indy cars on The Gold Coast on March 30/31 before returning south for Round 5 at the spectacular Phillip Island circuit in Victoria on April 14th.
