4 January 2001

Motor Trend Magazine Names Chevrolet's All-New Silverado Heavy-Duty Pickup as 2001 Truck of the Year
LOS ANGELES, Jan. 3 Motor Trend magazine today announced
the selection of the Chevrolet Silverado Heavy-Duty as the 2001 Truck of the
Year (issue dated February 2001). The Motor Trend Truck of the Year Award is
one of the most recognized awards in the automotive industry.
The magazine's "Test: 10 Pickup Truck Super-Shootout" (p.68) presents the
competition between 10 trucks and offers the reader "an insider's look at the
toughest, ground-poundingest truck test in Motor Trend's history," taking the
reader through 10 grueling tests on each truck. As the editors say: "We
drive each rig to hell and back-- on-road and off-road." The following trucks
from domestic and as well as import manufacturers were selected to compete:
Chevrolet's S-10 Crew Cab and the Silverado HD, Ford's Explorer Sport Trac and
F-150 SuperCrew, GMC's Sierra HD and Sierra C/3, Mazda B-Series, Nissan's
Frontier, Toyota's Tacoma S-Runner and Tacoma Double Cab. (Note: the models
must be '01 models and on sale by Jan. 1, 2001)
In selecting the Truck of the Year, the editors scrutinized engineering,
powertrain, payload, performance, interior, safety, quality, special features,
liveability and value. According to the magazine, Chevy's Silverado HD is
"Class-leading power. Technological innovation. High levels of refinement.
Do-it-all capability. Substantial cargo and towing capacity. Everyday
comfort. Recreational flexibility. High quality and good value. They all
come together with style in the new Chevrolet Silverado Heavy Duty: Motor
Trend's 2001 Truck of the Year."
