Traffic.com Launches Service in Detroit; Traffic Information Provider Further Expands its National Presence

WAYNE, Pa.--Dec. 18, 2000--Traffic.com, the premier provider of traffic and logistics information, announced today that it will provide local traffic information for Detroit on its Web site, www.traffic.com, so motorists in the nation's tenth largest city and surrounding region will be able to better plan their routes to avoid congestion and delays. The service will allow drivers with hectic schedules to access continually-updated traffic information on demand, exactly when they need it in order to make improved use of their time on the road.
Visitors who log onto Traffic.com can select Detroit (from nine cities currently available) and check accidents, events, alerts and advisories on key routes throughout the region. For the first time, drivers in the Detroit region will be able to obtain high-quality traffic information at their convenience, in simple, highly relevant Key Route segments. Instead of being dependent upon radio and TV broadcasts, Detroit motorists can log on and save time at Traffic.com. In addition to Detroit, the company also announced today that it was initiating service in Chicago.
"We are excited to bring our service to Detroit," said Richard P. Ramirez, President and CEO of Traffic.com. "The Michigan Department of Transportation reports that the number of registered vehicles in Michigan rose to over 9.5 million in 1999, an increase of 230,136 vehicles from the year before. With the added volume, constantly updated traffic information is important to drivers here, and that is what we provide - traffic on demand, rather than `traffic on-the-10's.'"
On September 25th, 2000, in Pittsburgh, PA, Traffic.com launched its TrafficPulse(SM) digital sensor network, an Intelligent Transportation System developed in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Transportation, with U.S. Secretary of Transportation Rodney Slater presiding over the ceremony. In addition to Detroit, Chicago and Pittsburgh, the company already provides local service in Philadelphia, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, Dallas/Fort Worth and San Francisco. The expansion is part of a planned national rollout that will eventually position Traffic.com in virtually every major U.S. market. Traffic.com plans to follow these Web site launches with digital sensor deployment identical to the system in Pittsburgh. Motorists who log on to the Traffic.com Web site can currently view the Pittsburgh portion of the site and see first-hand the benefits of the digital sensor deployment, such as Digital Travel Times and Average Speeds on key routes throughout the region.

    About Traffic.com:

Traffic.com is revolutionizing traffic and logistics information services with the development of advanced information systems and its exclusive TrafficPulse(SM) Digital Sensor Network. Traffic.com employs proprietary digital technology, supplemented by traditional event and incident data, to provide the fullest spectrum of information available to motorists, including actual speeds, travel times, traffic density, events and incidents on a 24/7 basis. Its TrafficPulse(SM) network, built in partnership with the U.S. Department of Transportation, is deployed along key roadways in major markets and delivers data wirelessly to its National Transportation Data Center. The resulting traffic information is distributed via the Web and radio broadcast reports, to be augmented shortly by TV broadcasts and wireless access. Ultimately, data will be delivered to vehicles via digitally based on-board telematics devices.
