Nissan Quest Earns Highest Star Ratings From NHTSA
WASHINGTON, Nov. 22 Yesterday, the 2001 Nissan Quest
minivan received a 5-star rating for driver and passenger frontal impact
collisions from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The Nissan Quest earned NHTSA's highest star ratings in its New Car
Assessment Program (NCAP) which is designed to estimate the possibility of
life threatening head and/or chest injury for the driver or front seat
passenger in a frontal collision.
Designed to meet stringent internal safety requirements and current
Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards for passenger cars, the 2001 Nissan
Quest features front seat belts with pre-tensioners as new standard equipment.
Other standard equipment includes dual front supplemental air bags,
three-point outboard seat belts in second and third rows, optional integrated
second-row child seats (bench seat), child seat anchors, child safety rear
door locks, energy absorbing steering column, front crumple zones, hood
buckling creases and safety stops, pipe-style steel side-door guard beams and
knee bolsters.
"Nissan takes its commitment to product safety and customer satisfaction
very seriously," said Jim Morton, Senior Vice President, Nissan North America,
Inc. "The second generation 2001 Quest is designed putting safety first. We
will continue to design and manufacture our vehicles to assure that they are
among the safest on the road."
The Nissan Quest has also been an integral part of Nissan's child safety
seat public service campaign entitled "Quest for Safety." Conducted in
partnership with the authors of the best-selling "What to Expect(TM)"
parenting books, Nissan offers free booklets for pediatric offices, hospitals
and community groups entitled, "The What to Expect Guide to Car Seat Safety."
More than one million booklets have been distributed to parents and caregivers
nationwide in both English and Spanish. Any person interested in receiving a
