Voice Recognition and Commands - Safety First; Pioneer Electronics Utilizes Technology to Ensure Driver Safety and Entertainment in Car Electronics Products

LONG BEACH, Calif.--Nov. 20, 2000--A recent survey conducted by The National Highway Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA) concluded that "voice recognition is a viable alternative" to reduce potential hazards that in-car navigation and telematics may pose. Pioneer Electronics, a leader in consumer electronics for the home and car, encourages its consumers to drive safely and to utilize voice recognition technology products whenever possible.
"Pioneer agrees with NHTSA that manufacturers have a responsibility to provide equipment that is safe," comments Keith Burnett, senior marketing manager, Pioneer car electronics. "We know that as commute times grow longer, more consumers are relying on our products for in-car information and entertainment. But the bottom line is that safety must come first." To that end, Pioneer Electronics uses voice recognition technology in products such as a voice-controlled navigation unit, voice-operated CD changer and a hands-free cellular phone adapter.
Another product safety-minded consumers should consider is a steering wheel remote control which gives the driver control of his or her audio/video system without having to look down at the head unit. If a driver prefers controlling the system through the headunit, it is helpful to select a system that utilizes an organic EL display for clarity and ease of reading.
