New STP Development Allows Consumers to Cut Frequency of Recommended Motor Oil Changes in Half

    OAKLAND, Calif., Nov. 1 STP Products Company (STP) today
introduces its response to the needs of the modern driver with the launch of
STP 6,000 Mile Oil Extender, a new premium oil additive that allows users to
drive up to 6,000 miles between oil changes.
    The introduction of STP 6,000 Mile Oil Extender comes on the heels of
extensive qualitative research showing the number one undelivered benefit
consumers seek from an oil additive is extending their oil change interval.
In addition, a recent omnibus survey shows that nearly 55 percent of Americans
worry more about changing their oil on a regular basis than other routine car
maintenance tasks.  However, the same survey reveals that nearly 30 percent of
auto owning Americans do not change their oil every 3,000 miles -- the
manufacturers' recommended limit.
    "Everyday driving -- defined as stop and go traffic, short trips and

recommend that consumers change their motor oil every 3,000 miles," explains
STP Research and Development Manager Tom Mulrane.  "However, many people do
not change their oil every 3,000 miles even though they worry about what might
happen to their car.  By adding STP 6,000 Mile Oil Extender to their motor
oil, drivers can travel up to 6,000 miles between oil changes without the fear
of harming their engine."
    STP 6,000 Mile Oil Extender should be added to motor oil at the time of
the oil change or within the first 3,000 miles after an oil change.  Composed
of concentrated motor oil performance additives - including dispersants,
detergents, and anti-wear agents - the product lengthens the life of the motor
oil by boosting and/or replacing vital ingredients in a car's oil, such as
friction reducers, anti-oxidents, detergents and dispersants that can be
