IEE Introduces Innovative Seat-Belt Warning System
LUXEMBOURG, Oct. 24 IEE s.ar.l. -- the world leader in
automotive occupant sensing systems -- recently introduced its innovative
seat-belt warning system designed to detect the presence of a car occupant
over 15 kg in the front passenger seat and/or on the rear bench of the car.
The IEE seat belt warning system connected to a seat-belt buckle triggers a
warning light reminding the seat occupant to fasten his or seat belts.
In addition, the system increases safety, especially children's safety, by
warning when a seat occupant undoes the seat-belt during the ride.
The IEE sensor consists of a sensor mat composed of two sandwiched carrier
sheets held together by a connective adhesive. Increased pressure on the
sensors in the mat, electrically connected in parallel, causes a decrease in
electrical resistance which informs the system if the seat is occupied and
automatically activates a seat-belt warning.
The function described above is one potential application among many of
the new sensor system. Easily added are sensor-activated controls governing
air-conditioning, seat-heaters, electrical headrests, interior lighting, car
audio and seat-position memory.
