Alamo and Broward SafeKids Sponsor Child Car Seat Safety Check; Child Safety Expo Features Education, Entertainment and Prizes
Business Editors/Automotive WritersFORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.--Oct. 20, 2000--Alamo Rent A Car, a division of ANC Rental Corporation , and Broward SafeKids Coalition are sponsoring a unique child car seat safety check and event on Sunday, October 29, 2000. The event will run from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Alamo's newly re-designed state-of-the-art Fort Lauderdale rental plaza at 2601 South Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale.
The South Florida Chapter of the National Safety Council is providing professionally trained car seat safety experts to ensure that consumers' car seats are properly installed and that the car seats have not been damaged or recalled. The National Safety Council's volunteers will educate consumers on the proper way to install their car seat in the owners' particular vehicle. If the car seat has been recalled, consumers will receive a NEW FREE car seat on the spot.
Other safety-related organizations will be available on site to educate and entertain. Broward SafeKids Coalition and other organizations will offer a host of free safety education and materials. Consumers will have the opportunity to learn about fire safety, bike and skate safety and KidsID will be there to provide free fingerprints and photographs for children. Also, Debra Holtzman, author of The Panic Proof Parent, will speak to families on general kid-safety issues such as safe Halloween festivities and poison safety.
This highly interactive event will include face painting, a Florida Response Team K-9 search dog show, and a visit by representatives from Kids in Distress to discuss how to become a foster parent. Refreshments will be served and there will be drawings for prizes throughout the day. The grand prize will be a Universal Orlando(sm) family vacation getaway. All events are free and open to the public.
Broward SafeKids Coalition is one of more than 280 state and local chapters of the National SAFEKIDS Campaign, the first and only national organization dedicated solely to the prevention of unintentional childhood injury--the number one killer of children 14 and under.
