Hometown Auto Retailers to Participate in Discovery Expo in New York

WATERTOWN, Conn.--Oct. 18, 2000--Hometown Auto Retailers, Inc. (Nasdaq NM: HCAR) will be among 70 small-cap and mid-cap companies to gather Oct. 23 at Discovery Expo 2000 in New York City to meet with financial professionals at the Hilton New York.
Hometown Auto will be the only publicly traded automotive retailer to participate in the event.
The Discovery Expo brings undiscovered companies together with high-profile growth fund managers, analysts, stockbrokers and investors in a one-day, exposition event. The expo organizers expect more than 1,300 financial professionals to be in attendance.
"The opportunity to meet with a large number of brokers and analysts at the Discovery Expo drew us to the event," said Corey Shaker, chief executive officer of Hometown Auto. "Hometown is unique because we are taking an innovative approach to business in the automotive market.
"Our use of cutting edge technology combined with our interests in higher-revenue segments of the market make us an attractive company for financial professionals. Participating in the Discovery Expo will give us a forum to discuss these benefits with brokers, dealers and analysts on an individual basis."
"Mid- and small-cap companies tend to fall off the financial radar screen no matter how well they are performing financially," said John G. Robbins, publisher of The Investment Reporter, which organizes the Discovery Expo. "Our goal is to connect financial professionals with companies that have the potential to succeed in their industries, but are undervalued or overlooked."
"During the past two quarters, Hometown has made significant changes in its operations and management," Shaker said. "I feel we are in a much better position today, and we will continue to improve over the next year as the effects of our recent changes help us generate positive results."
