    PARIS, Sept. 28 In a late afternoon conference call
yesterday, DaimlerChrysler board member and Chrysler chief designer Tom Gale
announced that he will retire before the end of the year.  With that news,
this year's Paris Auto Show kicked off a host of new product introductions,
