Magellan's 750M Provides Freedom and Flexibility For Road Warriors and Multi-Car Families- America's Most Popular Vehicle Navigation System Goes Portable - SANTA CLARA, Calif., Sept. 19 Magellan Corporation, makers of the 750NAV(TM) and Hertz NeverLost(R) vehicle navigation systems, announces the release of the world's first portable navigation system -- the 750M(TM) (mobile). Compact, lightweight and rugged, the 750M's portability and easy set up makes it ready for use in minutes -- without the cost and inconvenience of installation. It's the ideal navigation solution for road warriors, frequent travelers, fleet and lease-car operators, recreational vehicle owners and multi-vehicle families. Smaller and lighter than many notebook computers at less than seven pounds, the 750M comes pre-assembled and self-contained in an attractive carrying case with a shoulder strap for easy transport. It includes free map coverage of the entire U.S. and Canada and features a new off-road navigation option. With the portable 750M, drivers of multiple vehicles can now have visual and voice-prompted, turn-by-turn directions to any domestic location -- at any time -- in any vehicle. "With the 750M's portability, Magellan is delivering driving freedom," said Jeff Cable, vice president of worldwide marketing. "Not only will customers have the flexibility of using a single navigation system in different vehicles, they'll gain increased productivity, improved safety and a stress-free drive as the 750M nearly eliminates the chances of getting lost in unfamiliar places." Test drivers and analysts endorse the 750M as the most convenient, informative and easy to use navigation system on the market. "I have a built-in navigation system in one of my cars but the 750M is easier to use, provides more information and is just as accurate without being hardwired into my vehicle," said Andrew Seybold, editor and chief of Forbes/Andrew Seybold's Wireless Outlook newsletter and an analyst in the wireless industry. "What I love most about the 750M is that I'm able to move it from vehicle to vehicle. It's a great product." Available at a suggested retail price of $2,799, the intuitive 750M combines map-matching, inertial navigation technology and continuous free data from Global Positioning System satellites to provide extremely accurate guidance information. Its color display shows the driver's position on detailed maps of streets and highways. Drivers can exclude routes with construction, traffic or accidents and have the option of choosing the fastest or shortest route, which is automatically recalculated after a missed turn. The 750M powers on and off through ignition sensing. Other features include the option to choose a male or female voice from seven languages, view routes in four formats and store 100 frequent destinations. The 750M also shows services available at each highway exit and has a database of more than 500,000 businesses, hotels, restaurants, shopping centers, government facilities and business-related retailers. Accessories The 750M requires no monthly fees and has a one-year warranty. It ships with a navigation computer, rechargeable backup battery, carrying case with shoulder strap, docking station, quick-mount bracket, battery charger, an in-vehicle power adapter and a 12-foot-cable magnetic GPS antenna. It also ships with a color display that is visible in bright sunlight and has a five-foot cable. Optional accessories include a 20-foot-cable GPS antenna and a 16-foot display cable. Magellan also offers a mobility kit that converts the 750NAV to a portable system. It includes all 750M components except the navigation computer and display. Additional displays are available.
