The King of `The Jungle' Swings Into H-Town in the Never Before Seen BMW Z3 Signature Car
HOUSTON--(BW SportsWire)--Sept. 18, 2000--The Houston Astros and The Houston BMW Group unveiled the Ultimate Auction Signature Car, a 2000 BMW Z3 Convertible Roadster, on Saturday, September 16 at Enron Field. Jim Rome, driven by celebrity chauffeur Jose Lima, made a grand entrance for his World Tour stop at Enron Field in Houston in the BMW.
This was the car's first public appearance since the Houston Astros and The Houston BMW Group announced plans for the Ultimate Charity Auction in April. Since then, more than 640 baseball legends from visiting teams at Enron Field have signed the BMW next to their respective team logos to create the ultimate sports and auto collector's item. Some of the signatures include Hank Aaron, Tom Seaver, Frank Robinson, Joe Morgan, Tony Perez, and today's stars Jose Lima, Craig Biggio, Jeff Bagwell, Sammy Sosa, Mike Piazza, Mark McGwire, Randy Johnson, Frank Thomas, Chipper Jones and Greg Maddux.
The car will be auctioned during the World Series on Yahoo!(R) Auctions (http://auctions.yahoo.com), the fastest growing, globally-branded free auction site on the Internet. All of the proceeds from the sale of the car will benefit four all-star charities: MLB's Baseball Assistance Team (B.A.T); Hank Aaron's Chasing the Dream Foundation; the Houston-based Sunshine Kids; and the Houston-based SEARCH -- House of Tiny Treasures.
