'Electronic Cocoon' Technical Session Gives Wings To Automotive Safety at Convergence 2000 Oct. 16

    TROY, Mich. - Convergence 2000, the world's premier automotive electronics 
conference, will introduce attendees to the "Electronic Cocoon" and its impact 
on vehicle safety during the conference's kick-off technical session on Monday, 
Oct. 16, from 2:30 to 5 p.m. at Cobo Center in Detroit, Mich.

    The first of several technical sessions at Convergence 2000, the
"Electronic Cocoon" will spotlight electronics that enhance vehicle safety and
help prevent impending collisions, helping turn the vehicle into a cocoon for
safe, stress-free driving.  The session will address many of the electronic
innovations that sense the activity 360 degrees around the vehicle as well as
the condition of the vehicle and surrounding environment so that all
preventive measures possible can be taken to avoid collision.

    "Electronic Cocoon" will feature presentations by electronics experts from
Bosch GmbH, DaimlerChrysler, Ford Motor Company, Jaguar Cars Ltd., Advanced
Cruise Assist Highway System Research Association (AHSRA), Public Works
Research Institute, Raytheon Company and Delft University in the Netherlands.

    "Bringing the world's leading automotive manufacturers, suppliers and
research partners together to make the driving experience safer is the focus
of the 'Electronic Cocoon' session and one of the underlying goals for
Convergence 2000," said J.T. Battenberg III, chairman, CEO and president of
Delphi Automotive Systems, and chairman of Convergence 2000.

    Convergence 2000 provides the backdrop for more than 6,000 industry
players participating in this unparalleled global forum.  Held Oct. 16-18 at
Cobo Center in Detroit with the theme of "Automotive Electronics:  Delivering
Technology's Promise," Convergence 2000 will feature much more than state-of-
the-art exhibits, leading-edge technical sessions and breakthrough white
papers.

    This year's conference boasts an impressive list of keynote speakers,
including Scott McNealy, CEO of Sun Microsystems; Shoichiro Irimajiri, vice
chairman of Sega Enterprises; Carly Fiorina, Hewlett Packard CEO; Michael
Armstrong, AT&T CEO; William Ford, Jr., chairman of the board, Ford Motor Co.;
and Jack Smith, chairman, General Motors Corporation.

    Convergence 2000 is sponsored by the Convergence Transportation
Electronics Association (CTEA), which founded the conference more than 25
years ago; the Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers (IEEE); and,
the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE).  Proceeds from the conference
benefit the Convergence Education Foundation (CEF), a nonprofit organization
devoted to developing a passion for mathematics and science in school-aged
children.
