Exide Appoints David G. Enstone As Senior Vice President, Marketing, Sales and Service

READING, Pa. - Exide Corporation's Craig H. Muhlhauser, President and Chief
Operating Officer, today announced the appointment of David G. Enstone, a
distinguished leader in the automotive aftermarket, as Senior Vice President,
Marketing, Sales and Service.

"David brings more than 25 years of international business experience to
Exide. He most recently served as SBU Director-Carlite Aftermarket Operations
at Visteon Automotive Systems in Detroit. From 1997 through 1999, he served
as Director, North American Aftermarket Operations, also at Visteon.

I am honored that David chose to join Exide Corporation. Attracting an
executive with strong global leadership experience and a proven track record,
especially in turnaround situations, is a testament to our promising future.
He has demonstrated accomplishments in the development and implementation of
successful business strategies and profit improvement campaigns, new product
and technology launches, business turnarounds, and process improvement
programs," Muhlhauser said.

Before joining Visteon, David worked at United Technologies in Hartford,
CT, where he served as Director of Business Development and
Marketing-Aftermarket Operations, Regional Managing Director-Aftermarket
Operations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa and later as Vice President
of Sales and Marketing for General Electric/Pratt & Whitney Engine Alliance.

Previous to his experience in the United States, David held marketing,
engineering and management positions in England, including Managing Director
of the Aftermarket Division of Lucas Aerospace in Birmingham. He graduated
from the University of Bristol, England with a B.Sc. (Hon.) in Aeronautical
Engineering.

"Exide Corporation is a company in the midst of incredible change and
potential growth. I am challenged by the opportunities at Exide, and am
excited to be part of creating a world-class market leader," Enstone said.
Enstone will join Exide at its Reading Global Headquarters in early August.

"We continue to strengthen our senior leadership team, first with the
additions of Craig Muhlhauser and Kevin Morano, and now with David Enstone,
who combines marketing skill with extensive P&L leadership experience," said
Robert A. Lutz, Exide's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.

Exide Corporation, with annual revenues of approximately $2.2 billion and
operations in 23 countries, is the world's largest manufacturer of automotive
and industrial lead-acid batteries and a leader in electric storage solutions.
