AMA: New 96 speedway suspends operations

PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- According to a news release on the New 96 Speedway web-site the promoters have canceled the August 5 round of the AMA Progressive Insurance U.S. Flat Track Championships. Further details were not immediately available. The news release states "The New 96 Speedway regrets that due to events beyond our control, the racetrack will be forced to suspend operations until further notice. The Slager family will continue to work in order to reopen the race track yet this season. At this time, both this Saturday's race, and the August 5th AMA race have been canceled. We will continue with status updates in both print media and on our website. Please direct all inquiries to the office at (616)-642-6500." "We regret losing the New 96 Speedway event," stated AMA Pro Racing's Flat Track Manager, Bruce Bober, "we're now exploring the option of adding an additional event to the 2000 season schedule, and we will announce any additions as soon as possible."
