Women Only Driving Course Launched at the BMW Performance Center Driving School

20 June 2000

WOMEN ONLY DRIVING COURSE LAUNCHED AT THE BMW PERFORMANCE CENTER DRIVING
SCHOOL

Spartanburg, South Carolina - A one-day Women-Only Car Control Clinic has been
added to the curriculum at the BMW Performance Center Driving School.

"Many women have told us they appreciate the camaraderie and fun of sharing
a learning experience with a group of other women so we've added a course
just for them. The curriculum is the same as our day-long Car Control
Clinic, but the experience is definitely different," says Tom Troy, Manger
of the BMW Performance Center, where the driving school is based. "The
clinic is taught by women, all of whom are accomplished professional
drivers."

The Women-Only course, scheduled for September 11 with additional dates to
be added in 2001, emphasizes avoidance maneuvers, vehicle control and driver
awareness. Class size is limited to 12 participants. Teaching is done both
in the classroom and in BMW 3 Series sedans on the BMW Performance Center's
purpose-built driving course.

The BMW Performance Center Driving School opened last fall on a course
designed just for driver training. The curriculum emphasizes-skills to
respond to a wide variety of driving situations. The road course can be
configured 35 different ways and using special features not found in most
driver training programs. For example, students learn how to control a
vehicle on an ultra-smooth concrete skidpad, which produces a slippery
surface that simulates "black ice." Accident avoidance maneuvers are taught
on a water wall corridor - one of only a few in the world - where they are
"surprised" when obstacles "appear" in front of their moving vehicles. An
emergency braking zone gives students the opportunity to learn the
relationship between speed and stopping distance and how to brake with an
ABS-equipped vehicle on both wet and dry surfaces.

The cost of a one-day Women-Only Car Control Clinic at the BMW Performance
Center is $495. To sign up for any BMW Performance Center program, simply
call 1-888-345-4BMW.

BMW's Performance Center, home of the BMW Performance Center Driving School,
opened last year to expand the unique automotive experience BMW offers in
upstate South Carolina. At one location, a visitor can tour a $1.3 billion
state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, browse the Zentrum museum
showcasing more than 75 years of BMW automotive and motorcycle history, and
enroll in one of several driving instruction programs.
