Energy Conversion Devices Announces Stanford R. Ovshinsky Honored with the Sir William Grove Award

    TROY, Mich. - Energy Conversion Devices, Inc. is pleased to announce that 
Stanford R. Ovshinsky, President and CEO, was honored by the International 
Association for Hydrogen Energy with the IAHE Sir William Grove Award at the 
13th World Hydrogen Energy Conference, June 11-15, 2000, in Beijing, China.  The 
award was presented to Mr. Ovshinsky for his "life-long contributions to 
hydrogen energy in general, and to the fundamentals and applications of the 
metal hydride batteries in particular," noted the president of IAHE, Dr. T. 
Nejat Veziroglu.

    "The award to Stan Ovshinsky recognizes his life-long pioneering work in
the field of energy," commented Robert C. Stempel, ECD's Chairman.  "Stan's
vision and accomplishments have been a pivotal force in ECD's leadership
position in the fields of energy and information."

    ECD is a leader in the synthesis of new materials and the development of
advanced production technology and innovative products.  It has pioneered and
developed enabling technologies leading to new products and production
processes based on amorphous, disordered and related materials, with an
emphasis on advanced information technologies and alternative energy,
including hydride storage materials capable of storing hydrogen in a solid
state for use as a feed stock for fuel cells or internal combustion engines or
as an enhancement or replacement for any type of hydrocarbon fuel.
