Chevron Reformulates Delo 400 Synthetic SAE 5W-40 Motor Oil for Better Performance in Extreme Temperatures

16 June 2000

New Synthesis Enables Year-Round Performance; Achieves Greater Viscosity in Hot Weather, Pumpability in Cold

SAN RAMON, Ca. - Chevron today announced the reformulation of Delo(R) 400 Synthetic SAE 5W-40 motor oil, designed to better meet the needs of heavy duty diesel engines in extreme climates. In arctic temperatures, Delo 400 Synthetic SAE 5W-40 provides excellent low temperature pumpability leading to less wear at startup, while in hot climates, the oil maintains its SAE 40- viscosity grade for maximum lubricating film thickness. As a result, on-road and off-road operators are able to use one oil for all seasons.

"Drivers are demanding a single oil that can perform in all weather extremes and operating conditions," said Eli Sarmiento, market manager, Commercial Automotive, Chevron Products Co. "Delo 400 Synthetic SAE 5W-40 reduces oil thickening and maintains its startability advantages in cold weather, while proving excellent oxidation and thermal stability in hot climates. The result is longer engine life, greater engine performance and better value for our customers."

Delo 400 Synthetic SAE 5W-40 surpasses the requirements of the latest API standards. Key benefits include:

-- Easier cold weather starting due to low temperature pumpability
-- Lower oil costs as proven by excellent oil consumption and deposit
    control on piston crownlands
-- Reduced operating costs through better soot dispersancy and wear
    control
-- Longer engine life due to less wear during all operating
    conditions
-- Reduced inventory costs through its wide operating temperature
range, allowing for the use of one oil in all four seasons
-- Improved profitability through maximum fuel economy and increased
    uptime

Delo 400 Synthetic SAE 5W-40 is a multipurpose 100% synthetic lubricant formulated for use in gasoline and diesel engines, torque converters, gear cases and hydraulic systems operating in arctic-type temperatures. It is manufactured using stable synthetic base stocks and highly dispersed VI improvers that promote stable viscosity and soot dispersancy between oil drains.

Chevron reformulated Delo SAE 5W-40 meets the following classifications and requirements:

-- CH-4, CG-4, CF, CD, SH
-- Mack EO-M PLUS & EO-M
-- Cummins CES 20076 & CES 20071
-- Ford ESE-M2C153-E
-- General Motors GM 6094-M

"Chevron continues to build upon its legacy of leadership by creating solutions that meet the tough performance requirements of today and tomorrow," stated Sarmiento. "We are committed to providing our customers with superior lubrication solutions, both on- and off-road."
