New CTS Wireless Dual-Band and Tri-Band Voltage Controlled Oscillator Modules Reduce Cellular Handset Components and Enable Worldwide Functionality

ELKHART, Ind. - CTS Wireless Components, an innovator in wireless cellular handset component technology, the largest manufacturer of wireless components in North America, and a world leader in the industry, today announced the introduction of four, dual-band and tri-band VCO (voltage controlled oscillator) modules for use in cellular phones operating in GSM, CDMA and TDMA protocols. Handset manufacturers have historically required two or three individual discrete RF components per handset to accomplish global, mobile communications -- due to the varying operating frequencies throughout the world. CTS Wireless Components has successfully integrated multiple frequency functionality into single, compact, surface-mount packages for global applications. The discrete RF component integration in a single, multiple frequency oscillator module is the underlying technology behind telecom service provider's "one-rate" plans. Expensive roaming fees are eliminated; a fixed monthly charge is possible.

With the new CTS VCOs, cellular handset manufacturers can create lighter, more compact handsets while benefiting from reduced component count and faster design cycle times. CTS offers both dual-band and tri-band VCOs for GSM; a dual band VCO for CDMA; and a dual band VCO for TDMA. All CTS Wireless VCOs are capable of delivering high frequency, low phase noise signals with low load pull in a single miniaturized part.

"With analysts projecting over a billion wireless phones in use by 2003, this new CTS technology is directly impacting handset manufacturers product offerings," said Phil Semprevio, Executive Vice President, CTS Wireless Components Strategic Business Group. "The current trend among industry leaders is to focus on the production of dual-band and tri-band phones. By leveraging our RF design expertise and integrating discrete components, we are supporting our customer's efforts to exceed consumer expectations."

CTS Corporation designs, manufactures and sells a broad line of electronic components and custom electronic assemblies for OEM customers primarily in the communications equipment, automotive and computer equipment markets worldwide. CTS operates manufacturing facilities in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Scotland, Singapore, Taiwan and China.
