General Motors Selects MEDSTAT for Critical Benefits Management Role

    ANN ARBOR, Mich. - General Motors Corporation signed a three-year agreement with The MEDSTAT Group to obtain healthcare data analysis services to maximize the value of GM's health benefits program.

    GM, the world's largest industrial corporation and full-line vehicle manufacturer, provides health benefits for more than 1.2 million employees, retirees, and dependants in the United States.

    MEDSTAT will provide GM with a dedicated project team, supported by a Healthcare Advisory Group developed specifically for this customer. The Healthcare Advisory Group includes senior-level staff from across MEDSTAT with in-depth health benefits, analytic, and clinical expertise.

    MEDSTAT services will be used by GM to:

    -- Support the implementation of more effective disease
    management programs by targeting high-risk populations to
    ensure they are obtaining the recommended care, and
    measuring the outcomes of that care;

    -- Analyze pharmaceutical utilization to ensure employees are
    receiving the most effective drug treatments; and

    -- Improve staff effectiveness and significantly reduce "time
    to answer" through anticipating information needs and
    improving information distribution efforts.

    MEDSTAT pioneered the development of healthcare decision support solutions for employers in the early 1980s and has the industry's longest track record of achieving results for customers through product innovation, superior customer service, and outstanding people.

    "We're pleased that one of America's leading corporations has turned to MEDSTAT for the healthcare analytic expertise and technology solutions it needs to manage the cost and quality of employee health benefits," said Shelby Solomon, general manager at MEDSTAT.

    The MEDSTAT Group is a healthcare information company that helps its clients manage the cost, quality, and strategic positioning of health services and benefits. MEDSTAT has the longest and most successful track record in the industry, providing databases, software applications, consulting, and research services to clients for almost two decades. Its nearly 1,000 clients include some of the nation's largest corporations, health plans and insurance companies, providers, pharmaceutical companies, and federal and state government agencies. Headquartered in Ann Arbor, Mich., The MEDSTAT Group is part of The Thomson Corporation.
