ZAP Appoints John Dabels as PresidentSEBASTOPOL, Calif., May 31 ZAPWORLD.COM announced today it has appointed John R. Dabels as President effective June 1, 2000. Mr. Dabels has over 25 years of experience in the automotive industry including senior executive and board positions, and 10 years experience in the electric vehicle (EV) industry. Most recently, Mr. Dabels was Chief Financial Officer and member of the Board of EV Global Motors, an electric bicycle company founded and chaired by Lee Iacocca. Mr. Dabels held various positions with General Motors including Director of Marketing for the Buick Motor Division and Director of Worldwide Market Development for the General Motors EV Program, the "Impact," which was the predecessor for the EV-1. Mr. Dabels holds an MBA from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. According to Dabels, "Over the next few years, the electric vehicle industry will experience considerable growth similar to that experienced by the gas powered auto industry 90 years ago. There will be consolidation of many companies, and the emergence of a dominant manufacturer of electric vehicles. I am very excited about working closely with the rest of the management team at ZAPWORLD.COM (ZAP) to bring it to its next stage of development. My role will be to execute the vision and take ZAP to a position of dominance in personal electric vehicles." Further explaining the vision, Dabels stated ZAP intended to focus on products that have limited range, limited speed, and applications where electric performs better than gas-powered engines. "ZAP will not be competing directly with the auto OEM efforts to introduce low emission, long-range, highway-use vehicles. ZAP will be concentrating on introducing new products that have specific duty cycles. Our goal is to build a family of affordable products that are fun, reliable and exciting for personal and fleet applications." Dabels added, "Electric-powered products are like computers on two or four wheels. Think of all the applications of computers in the last ten years and you can begin to envision all the new products that are possible from ZAP." Said Gary Starr, CEO of ZAP, "I am pleased that John Dabels has agreed to join our team. We share the same vision, and I feel confident that by working together we will be able to take the Company to a new level of sales and earnings. John brings the management experience that ZAP needs to help build the Company into making it the ultimate portal for zero air polluting vehicles and products." ZAP is a public company, with its stock trading on the NASDAQ SmallCap Market under the symbol ZAPP. For more information visit http://www.zapworld.com or contact the company at 800-251-4555.
