Letters to the Editor...Customer Complaint
26 May 2000
Good morning sir, or rather it is not a good morning for me. My name is a Roberta Peters and I have a slight complaint with Chrysler automobile financing. I am currently in the United States Air Force. And I have went through some many things in the past 3 years that you really could not believe. Well anyway, let me explain my situation. In 1997 I purchased a Jeep Cherokee SE from the Hertricth Jeep dealer in Dover DE. It was my dream car and I felt that I worked hard and deserved it. It was not the top of the line just the simple SE model. I still own that Jeep today. In 1998 My husband had lost his employment, and since I was only a pay grade E4 in the Airforce, we almost lost everything we worked so hard to get. Our house, the car, and etc. I had to pay all bills by myself, or I tried to pay all the bills by myself, I got so behind, I thought I could never catch up. However slowly but surely I did. Recently I had my 3rd child, and the Air Force sent me away for 4 months overseas on a temporary duty assignment. My husband was left with all three kids. My Jeep I had made arrangements to have the payments taken out of my pay by form of allotment, however the money was going to the wrong account, and therefore my financial instituation never received the payments for the Jeep. However I discoved where the money was going, Western Unioned the balance to the lein holder, never knowing that they had written the car off as a bad debt. They allowed me and is still allowing me the make payments on the Jeep, but my credit report states the car was repro, and written off. I decided to trade the car in for a bigger car (3 kids) I make enough money for the payments, And I applied for financing from Chrysler with an explaination letter for the deragatory credit, and a letter from USAA (financing instituation for the Jeep) explaining the situation, and stating that my car was not repo, and etc. All I was requesting was a second chance , since the events that occured was not my fault, and I a trying to get back on my feet. Chrysler turned me down flat. I do realize that credit is the number one key in granting approvals. However I am in a unique situtation. I was even willing to pay a higher interest rate, and after Chrysler requested all the information from , ie the letter from USAA, pay stubs, explaination letter, you all embarrassed me, because that letter had real personal things on there, and still I was denied for credit. I felt like I was slapped in the face. May I ask why your company is not willing to give some one like me another chance? Why did you all embarass me the way you did? Can I please have some answers. thank you Mrs. Roberta J Peters
