Meritor Automotive's Thomas Madden Named To Michigan Colleges Foundation Board of Trustees
    TROY, Mich., May 25 Thomas A. Madden, senior vice
president and chief financial officer of Meritor Automotive, Inc. ,
has been elected to serve as one of three new trustees to the Michigan
Colleges Foundation (MCF) board.
    Meritor Automotive President and Chief Executive Officer Larry Yost said,
"Supporting education here in Michigan and in the communities in which we do
business is a top priority for Meritor.  We are extremely pleased with Tom's
appointment to the MCF board, as well as with his enthusiasm for supporting
Michigan education initiatives."
    Meritor Automotive contributes more than $1.8 billion annually to
charitable organizations around the world.  More than half of that is devoted
to supporting education.  The company's financial assistance to engineering
and technical schools worldwide is intended to help increase the number of
engineers and scientists available for recruitment into the field of
automotive engineering.  These contributions also help stimulate technological
development and innovation in the field.  Meritor is an ongoing financial
supporter of the Michigan Colleges Foundation.
    Also elected to the Foundation board were Judith S. Love, senior vice
president of Finance for Comerica Inc., and Patrick W. Reay, state director,
Large Business Services, for Ameritech/SBC.  Each of the three new trustees
will serve a three-year term.
    Madden is a certified public accountant, with a bachelor's degree in
Business Administration from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a master's
degree in Business Administration from the University of Pittsburgh.  Prior to
his current position with Meritor, Madden served at Rockwell International as
a corporate officer and the vice president of corporate development.  From
October 1994 to August 1996, Madden was vice president, finance and
administration, of Rockwell Automotive.  He also served for 13 years on
Rockwell's corporate controller's staff.  Before joining Rockwell, Madden was
audit manager for Coopers and Lybrand.
    In addition, Madden served on the board of directors of the Pittsburgh
Chapter of the Financial Executives Institute, the leadership council of the
Pittsburgh Family Hospice, and the board of directors of the University of
Pittsburgh Business Alumni Association.
    The Michigan Colleges Foundation, now celebrating its fifty-first year of
operation, was founded in 1949 to raise funds from the private sector for
Michigan's independent liberal arts colleges.  Since its inception, MCF has
raised over $53 million for member institutions, and has administered more
than 1,150 corporate-sponsored scholarships to qualified students.  MCF member
colleges and universities include Adrian, Albion, Alma, Andrews, Aquinas,
Calvin, Hillsdale, Hope, Kalamazoo, Madonna, Marygrove, Olivet, Siena Heights
and Spring Arbor.
