DaimlerChrysler Corporation's Statement on Passage of PNTR By the House of Representatives
AUBURN HILLS, Mich, May 24 DaimlerChrysler Corporation
President, Jim Holden issued the following statement on passage by the House
of Representatives of Permanent Normal Trade Relations for China.
"DaimlerChrysler Corporation is delighted with the outcome of the vote by
the House of Representatives, which approved Permanent Normal Trade Relations
status for China today. Today's result is the product of years of efforts by
many, but in particular, US Trade Representatives Sander Levin and Doug
Bereuter were also instrumental in providing the additional assurances Members
of Congress needed to support this important legislation, which paved the way
to this significant result today."
This is an important step toward bringing China into the world trading
system as a partner with equal rights and responsibilities. We are hopeful
that China will be admitted to the WTO soon. This vote in the House is an
important development and we look forward to the same action by the
U.S. Senate as soon as possible. Once in place and fully implemented, the
commitments made by China to join the World Trade Organization will have a
very positive effect not only for exports to China, but also on the Chinese
economy which will benefit from greater openness.
