Sonic Automotive, Inc. Announces Acquisition Of Larry Miller Chevrolet in Tulsa, Oklahoma
    CHARLOTTE, N.C., May 4 Sonic Automotive, Inc.
announced today that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire
Larry Miller Chevrolet in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  This dealership had 1999 revenues
of $100 million and, upon closing, will represent Sonic's fourth Tulsa area
operation.  The acquisition is subject to customary closing conditions,
including manufacturer's approval, and is expected to close in the third
quarter of 2000.
    Including Larry Miller Chevrolet in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the Company has
acquired, or will acquire, seven dealerships in 2000 totaling approximately
$520 million in 1999 revenues.  Sonic is continuing in 2000 to execute its
disciplined acquisition strategy.  Acquisition efforts are concentrated on
operations in Sonic's existing markets, such as Tulsa, Oklahoma.
    B. Scott Smith, the Company's President and Chief Operating Officer,
stated, "Acquisition of Larry Miller Chevrolet will strengthen our already
strong group of dealerships in the Tulsa, Oklahoma market.  We're also adding
to our complement of Chevrolet dealerships.  Chevrolet is a particularly
strong truck brand with growing market share and Sonic is seeking to expand
its representation of Chevrolet in Southeast and Southwest markets."
