NHRA RECORDS HAMMERED AT ATCO
ATCO, N.J. - The NHRA national record book took a beating at Atco Raceway
Friday as drivers in the Competition, Super Stock, and Stock categories
took aim at the quartermile. Great weather, along with cool temperatures,
assisted the assault at the Coors Light National Open.
Bunkerhill, W.V.'s Bucky Hess rewrote the Super Stock AA record with an
8.820-second lap in his '68 Plymouth Barracuda. In Stock eliminator where
racers are vying for the first sub-10-second run, Arnold Green lowered at
A/Stock record to 10.130 seconds in his '69 Camaro. A total of 81 records
in 20 different categories were set during the day, creating long lines at
the NHRA Technical Inspection area as racers' vehicles were checked for
rules compliance.
Qualifying continues Saturday with eliminations slated to begin Sunday.
