Sense Technologies Launches Campaign to Raise Public Awareness On Need for Backup Collision Safety

OMAHA, Neb.--April 13, 2000--Sense Technologies Inc. (OTCBB: SNSGF and Canadian Venture Exchange: SSE), a leading manufacturer of quality safety products for the transportation industry, today announced it is launching a public awareness campaign to educate industry leaders, government officials, interest groups and the general public about the dangers of rearward moving accidents and the solutions available for collision warning.
A compendium of professional papers and documents related to backing crashes counter measures, compiled by Sense Technologies engineers, was distributed to each member of the United States House and Senate Transportation Committee, as well as key personnel in the Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The initiative was undertaken to spark an examination of back-up collision prevention and safety, in anticipation of a federal ruling to establish definitive regulations for rearward warning devices as standard safety equipment.
Regulations currently exist for safety equipment such as seatbelts and airbags, and a preparatory debate would require an accurate evaluation of currently available collision warning system technology.
"Based on extensive automotive industry studies and national safety data, it is evident that there is a real need for a reliable safety product. Every year people are killed or disabled in backup accidents," said Bruce Schreiner, Director, Sense Technologies. "And, we have invested considerable time to develop a product that will eliminate the danger. Response suggests there is a real interest in the industry and willingness to assist the federal government in making an assessment of backup warning technology."
The Guardian Alert(TM), a patented, FCC-approved, environmentally sealed, high-impact next generation microwave back-up safety device developed by Sense, utilizes a proprietry pattern that covers the entire rear surface of a vehicle. A sensor detects the presence of targets up to nine feet away, by the resultant doppler shift caused by an object's movement.
Because Guardian Alert is based on microwave technology, unlike other sensors on the market, it is not adversely affected by rain, snow, mud, light or other environmental factors.
The Guardian Alert is powered by a vehicle's reverse light circuitry, making it instantly activated once the vehicle is put into reverse and automatically shutting-off when in neutral or a forward gear.
The Guardian Alert is completely self-contained in a rugged housing and fully operational with the connection of two wires. The interior indicator can be mounted in any location within the driver's compartment that has access to the automotive electrical system. The unit comes in nine standard models to meet the requirements of today's most popular vehicles.
S&S Distributing (Elkhorn, NE), a licensee of Sense Technologies, is a private distribution company with expertise in marketing, advertising and product development and the distributor for the Guardian Alert.
