Saturn's Michigan Retailers Conduct Free Child Safety Seat Checks

    TROY, Mich., March 29 Four out of five child safety seats
are improperly installed, estimates the National Safe Kids Campaign.  Saturn's
Michigan retailers want to improve those percentages by conducting free child
safety seat checks throughout the month of April.  Saturn is sponsoring "seat
check" events in conjunction with its UAW partners and Safe Kids Coalition.
    "This is an opportunity for people to stop by their local Saturn retailer
and have the installation of their safety seat inspected," says Jerry Lewis,
Saturn UAW sales, service and marketing coordinator.  "Child safety seats and
safety belts, when correctly installed and used, can prevent injury and save
lives."
    Various events will take place at Michigan Saturn retail facilities.  "Of
course, there will be refreshments and treats for children and their parents,"
says Susan McCarthy, Saturn marketing area manager.  "The Michigan State
Police will be on hand at several events, along with Trooper Mac and the
Buckle Bear.  At each event, AAA Michigan will do free finger print
identification."
    The Child Seat Safety Program is one of the many community projects
sponsored by Saturn and the UAW.  Other projects include early literacy
campaigns, blood donation, food drives and other community projects.
