Speedway Motorsports Announces Record Racing Weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway

    CONCORD, N.C., March 27 Racing events at Bristol Motor
Speedway this weekend broke all attendance records in the 40-year history of
the track, according to officials of Speedway Motorsports, Inc. .
    The company recorded a sell out of the 147,000-seat facility for the Food
City 500 NASCAR Winston Cup Series event won by Rusty Wallace on Sunday,
March 26.  Speedway Motorsports constructed a total of 13,000 new seats at the
speedway this year, which were sold on a season ticket basis.
    Record attendance in excess of 100,000 occurred Saturday, March 25 for the
Cheez-It 250 NASCAR Busch Series, Grand National Division event won by
Sterling Marlin.
    "Bristol continues to amaze us with its popularity," stated Bruton Smith,
chairman and chief executive officer of Speedway Motorsports.  "The fans
recently voted Bristol their favorite speedway out of all of the speedways
hosting Winston Cup events.  With the great racing we had this past weekend, I
believe Bristol will remain number one."
    Bristol's high-banked 1/2-mile has been very popular with NASCAR fans
because of close racing and intense competition.
    Speedway Motorsports' racing calendar continues to be full this coming
weekend, March 31 - April 2, with the running of the DirecTV 500 NASCAR
Winston Cup Series, the Albertson's 300 Presented by Pop Secret NASCAR Busch
Series, Grand National Division race at Texas Motor Speedway, and the debut of
the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series at Li'l Texas Motor Speedway.  Also,
Lowe's Motor Speedway will host the American LeMans Series in Charlotte on
March 31 - April 1.
