2000 Eyes on Design Weekend Set for June 16-18 in Metro Detroit
GROSSE POINTE SHORES, Mich., March 22 Eyes on Design, the
world's only car show to focus on the emotion and character of design, has
announced the dates and locations for its 2000 Design Weekend. All proceeds
from the events will benefit the visually impaired and the Detroit Institute
of Ophthalmology (DIO).
The 2000 Eyes on Design Weekend will feature The Sport Utility Vehicle and
run from Friday to Sunday, June 16-18. Tickets for all events can be obtained
by calling the Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology at 313-824-EYES (3937). The
events include:
Friday, June 16
What: Eve of the Eyes -- An informal social event honoring the design
profession and open to the general public. The event puts the spotlight on
automotive art and a preview of the Eyes on Design exhibition featuring
vehicles of the past, present and future.
Time: 6-9 p.m.
Location: 3M Innovation Center, Livonia, Michigan
Cost: $25 per person (students $15) includes parking and hors d'oeuvres
Saturday, June 17
What: Vision Honored -- "Black tie" Automotive Design Awards Banquet,
honoring "Design Visionaries of the 20th Century." Guest speakers include
Wayne Cherry, Vice President of Design, General Motors; J Mays, Vice President
of Design, Ford; John Herlitz, Vice President of Design, DaimlerChrysler
Corp.; and Peter J. Pestillo, Chairman & CEO, Visteon Automotive Systems.
Time: 6:30 p.m.
Location: Detroit Institute of Arts, Detroit, Michigan -- Hosted by Dow
Automotive
Cost: $200 per person (by reservation) includes parking, dinner and
dancing.
Sunday, June 18 (Father's Day)
What: Private Eyes Brunch -- An elegant brunch for automotive
professionals and the general public
Time: 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
Location: Private lakeside pavilion at the Edsel & Eleanor Ford House,
Grosse Pointe Shores, Michigan -- Hosted by Meritor Automotive
Cost: $100 per person (by reservation)
Children 12 and under $50
Tables of 10 available: $1,000
What: Eyes on Design -- A celebration of Automotive Design, featuring
more than 250 of the world's finest vehicles. Judging by automotive designers
will take place in 14 categories with crystal awards being presented mid-day
to the owners of the "Best of" vehicles. This year's exhibit will also
celebrate the design of the bicycle and its role in transportation.
Time: 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (awards ceremony begins at 1 p.m.)
Location: Edsel & Eleanor Ford House, Grosse Pointe Shores, Michigan
Cost: $15 per person; $12 in advance
Children under 12 free with adult paid admission

Eyes on Design is a benefit for the Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology
(DIO), a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation founded in 1972. Eyes on Design is
the primary source of revenues for the DIO's research, education and support
group programs that enhance the independence of the visually impaired.
