Harley-Davidson Named Official Provider of Motorcycles to The Sydney 2000 Olympic GamesMILWAUKEE, Feb. 2 -- In addition to the roar of cheering fans from around the world, the rumble of Harley-Davidson motorcycles will also be heard during the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia. Harley-Davidson will provide its world-class motorcycles to escort Torchbearers during the Torch Relay, and for use during the Olympic Games. "The Olympic Games share a lot of the same qualities as the Harley-Davidson brand: adventure, individualism and freedom," explained John Hevey, Vice President, Asia Pacific and Latin America. "We are proud to be the Official Provider of Motorcycles to the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games because we are impressed by the spirit of freedom and the commitment to excellence displayed by the athletes during the Games." During the Torch Relay, members of the Australian Police Force will escort 10,000 Torchbearers on four specially designed Harley-Davidson police Road King(R) motorcycles, a model which is an example of our completely redesigned, new generation of motorcycles. The Relay will arrive in Australia on June 8, last for 100 days and cover more than 16,000 kilometers of Australia's rugged terrain. "The Torch Relay will pass within one hours' drive of 85 percent of the Australian population as it progresses towards the Olympic Stadium for the Opening Ceremony," explained Hevey. "This will be a great opportunity for Harley-Davidson to demonstrate the strength and durability of our products, which have been a part of Australian history for more than 80 years. The customized Harley-Davidson motorcycles for the Olympic Games and Torch Relay will stand as a visual reminder of the beauty and strength that both the Olympic Games and our brand represent."
