Federal-Mogul Competition Series Rod Bearings Now Offered For Performance Honda Engines
SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Feb. 1 -- The same Federal-Mogul
Corporation engine bearing technologies that have helped win NASCAR Winston
Cup and NHRA Winston Drag Racing Series championships are now available for
the leading nameplate within the rapidly expanding high-performance import
market -- Honda.
New Federal-Mogul Competition Series rod bearings for performance Honda
engines feature the same patented, super-duty materials, extra-high-strength
backing and track-proven race profiles that have dominated virtually every
level of stock car and drag racing competition.
    Federal-Mogul's exclusive multi-layer super-duty bearing material consists
of an H-14 copper-lead alloy bonded to a high-strength steel backing. A
nickel barrier and very thin, strong lead-tin-copper overplate help ensure
unparalleled durability over a full range of operating conditions, from idle
to maximum throttle and extreme temperatures.
Unlike competitors' rod bearings, Competition Series bearings from
Federal-Mogul do not feature a tin "flash" plate. This purely cosmetic layer
-- which gives competitors' bearings a white/gray color -- can migrate around
a bearing's steel backing under racing conditions, creating potentially
damaging high spots on the component's inside diameter.
Federal-Mogul Competition Series rod bearings also feature chamfers for
added clearance with aftermarket crankshafts and increased crush (press fit)
to ensure proper bore conformity for longer service life.
