Bellingham Company Produces Most Unique SUV Available
BELLINGHAM, Wash.--Jan. 15, 2000--Can the Carriageworks, a Bellingham, Wash. company, compete with the likes of the American General "Hummer" and other large SUV manufacturers?Owner Dan McConnaughey is confident they can! The Carriageworks' offering is known as "The Contender," and in nearly every aspect is hand-built to the customer's specifications. It may be strictly utilitarian, utterly luxurious, exotic, or anywhere in between.
"Our intent with this company," says Dan, (an accomplished mechanic with over 25 years experience building and restoring vehicles in both the automotive and aviation fields), "is to be told by the customer what they want. We believe this to be a rather unique approach. Specifically, we are a custom shop, here for the discriminating customer who wants a hand in designing their own vehicle."
Not surprisingly, this has attracted some attention. In addition to being invited to the Sportsman's Exhibition in Seattle, in Feb. 2000, The Carriageworks has been receiving requests from Alaska, the east coast, Texas, and southern California, as well as throughout the greater Puget Sound area. Currently they are operating with a four-month backlog and project that their new facility (fully operative by the end of 2000) will double production of these hand-crafted limiteds from 12 to 15 per year up to 24 to 30. If you want to know more about their 8-passenger stretch version, or need more specific information, The Carriageworks can be reached at (360) 303-1382. E-mail: Info@ratvee.com.
