AAA Names Mitsubishi Galant a 'Top Car' in Its New Car & Truck Buying Guide
Auto Club Gives Galant Top Marks for
Individual Styling, Interior, Handling and Power

CYPRESS, Calif., Dec. 22 -- Mitsubishi Motors' Galant
mid-size sedan was today announced as one of the American Automobile
Association's "Top Car" Award Winners, in a ceremony held in Washington, DC.
The AAA published the awards in its new-for-2000 AAA New Car & Truck
Buying Guide (formerly Autograph), which provides hands-on evaluations for
almost 200 vehicles. The article is also posted to the AAA web site at
http://www.aaa.com/news.
Mitsubishi Galant was named as AAA's choice in the $15,000-$20,000
category. According to the publication, the sedan was "well-prepared to take
on competition from domestics and imports." Cited for praise were the
Galant's attractive styling, balanced 4-wheel independent suspension, smooth
performance and comfortable interior.
"Galant is a sensible alternative for those who don't want to be seen in
what everyone else is driving," said Dave Van Sickle, editor, AAA New Car &
Truck Buying Guide. Van Sickle and his team of automotive experts test drove
each vehicle listed in the book to see how it handled in real-world
situations, on streets and highways, with passengers and cargo.
"Galant was designed with styling and performance to make it stand out
from the sedan pack," said Pierre Gagnon, executive vice president and chief
operating officer, Motor Sales of America, Inc. "It's very gratifying that
the prestigious American Automobile Association has recognized, along with
consumers, that the Galant offers both value and distinction in a very
competitive class."
Gagnon noted that sales of the Mitsubishi Galant have increased 70% since
the introduction of the redesigned model for 1999. The car has also received
kudos from Car and Driver Magazine and the web sites Edmunds.com and The Auto
Channel.
Mitsubishi Galant offers buyers two engine choices: a muscular 2.4-lite
SOHC 4-cylinder with balance shafts and 145-horsepower(1), or smooth
195-horsepower(2), 3.0-liter SOHC 24-valve V6. Available in four trim levels
(DE, ES, LS and GTZ), all Galant sedans have standard air conditioning, power
windows, power door locks and AM/FM/CD radios. New 2000 features include an
anti-theft engine immobilizer, keyless entry with "answer back" feature,
3-point safety belts for seating at the rear-center, and child restraint
anchors.
AAA is a not-for-profit federation of 89 clubs with 1,100 offices
