American Isuzu Motors Inc.'s Internet Naming Contest is Amazing Success
'Isuzu Ultimate Naming Challenge' Receives 46,577
Name Suggestions in 29 Day Run

CERRITOS, Calif., Dec. 22 -- After 29 days of receiving
thousands of name suggestions for American Isuzu Motors Inc.'s (AIMI) next SUV
concept, the first phase of the "Isuzu Ultimate Naming Challenge" is over.
"We had incredible response from thousands of very creative automotive
enthusiasts; and after looking at a few of the names submitted," said Bob
Reilly, AIMI's senior vice president, COO, SUV, "I can tell you it won't be
easy for our panel of judges, there are many good names."
The "Isuzu Ultimate Naming Challenge," was a website oriented competition
that asked contestants to visit AIMI's website and suggest names for the
firm's newest concept -- which shows one possible future evolution of the SUV.
The contest began November 17th, 1999 at 12:00 PM PST and ended
December 15, 1999. Contest entries had to be made by a valid e-mail account
by an entrant over eighteen years of age. Competitors were asked to comply
with specific contest rules as outlined on the website. At the web site,
registrants could view representations of AIMI's newest concept vehicle and
learn of its development history, equipment and projected market segment.
Multiple entries were accepted and in the case of duplicate name suggestions,
the first in by date and time was the one considered valid.
Of the 46,577 names submitted 28,642 were duplicates, leaving 17,935
unique names. The winning name will be announced next year and the grand
prize will be a new Isuzu SUV -- winner's choice.
Presented at the 1999 Tokyo Motor Show, this new Isuzu SUV concept serves
as the inspiration for the future SUVs to be sold in the US. This concept
Isuzu vehicle, designed to meet the multi-functional needs of American SUV
drivers of the new century, is powered by a 3.5 liter 24-valve DOHC V6 engine
and equipped with Isuzu's respected Torque-on-Demand(R) traction system. But
these and other technical features pale, when compared to the concept's
spectacular exterior design and interior architecture which already has the
automotive experts buzzing.
