Electric Motorcycle ZAPs Two World Records

15 September 1999

Electric Motorcycle ZAPs Two World Records
SEBASTOPOL, Calif., Sept. 14 -- Electric vehicle pioneer
ZAPWORLD.COM (OTC Bulletin Board: ZAPP) announced today that the LECTRA(TM)
electric motorcycle set two world records at the second annual Woodburn
Electric Drag Races, held August 28, 1999 in Woodburn, Oregon.
A modified production version of the LECTRA posted a time of
14.567 seconds on the 1/8-mile track with a final speed of 40.90 MPH. A
production version of the LECTRA posted a time of 15.295 seconds and a final
speed of 40.44 MPH. Both marks are world records in the 24-volt class,
according to the National Electric Drag Racing Association that sanctioned the
event. For the official results, visit http://www.nedra.com. See a photo of the
record-setting LECTRA at http://www.zapworld.com/news/news_lectra.html.
In July, ZAP obtained the exclusive distribution rights to the LECTRA,
which is one of the only production electric motorcycles available today.
Engineered for urban riding environments, its design incorporates
hi-performance acceleration, braking and handling. Electric drive technology
makes the LECTRA a motorcycle that is very easy to ride, requiring no
shifting, no warm up, and virtually no maintenance. At the same time, LECTRA
has the performance and riding characteristics that will impress even the
veteran motorcycle rider.
The LECTRA is one of the first products to commercialize an advanced
variable reluctance (VR) electric drive system for vehicle drive applications.
Called the VR24(TM), this new drive system is a compact, highly efficient and
brushless motor technology. Its new motor structure (patent pending) combined
with custom computer controls provides hi-performance at a competitive price.
A unique feature of the VR24 is its electronically assisted braking mode.
Electrical braking extends vehicle range and preserves brake life by turning
the vehicle's kinetic energy into stored electrical energy during braking.
For added safety and control, the VR24 also incorporates "antilock" braking
features, and a variety of safety interlock controls.
In honor of the world record run, ZAP will offer a $1,000 rebate on all
LECTRA purchases until October 31, 1999. For further information, visit
