Mobil Announces Upgrades to Its Commercial Vehicle Lubricant Formulations

FAIRFAX, Va.--(AutomotiveWire)--Sept. 13, 1999--Mobil announced today that it has upgraded its Mobil Delvac 1 and Mobil Delvac 1300 Super commercial engine oils to new performance levels that allow 1999 certified commercial vehicles to operate to their maximum potential - even under stricter emission requirements.
"Although these Mobil products exceed the new lower emission standards issued by the American Petroleum Institute (API), Mobil upgraded them to offer commercial vehicle operators with 1999 certified engines the additional benefits they expect from Mobil products," said Mobil commercial vehicle lubricants program manager Mark Velkoff.
"Mobil is recognized for setting the standards in the commercial vehicle lubricants market," added Velkoff. "We work closely with the API and the engine manufacturers to continually upgrade our products to meet and exceed emission standards while offering our customers outstanding performance benefits."
Emission requirements have become more stringent for light, medium and heavy-duty trucks and urban buses, setting limits in both transient and steady-state conditions. The industry recognized that the 1999 certified engines could potentially generate higher levels of carbon soot as a result of retarded engine injection timing. Therefore, Mobil has created advanced formulations of its products to operate with higher amounts of soot at the same oil drain intervals as the pre-1999 engines.
"Mobil believes there is the potential for motor oils whose formulas have not been adapted to the technology needs of today's vehicles to compromise fuel economy and engine durability," said Velkoff. "With Mobil's advanced technology, our customers know that they can depend on our products for significant cost-savings and extended engine life."
Mobil Delvac 1, the industry-regarded leader, is a fully synthetic, heavy-duty diesel engine oil that reduces operating costs, increases uptime and reduces oil and fuel consumption which allows fleets to operate more productively. Mobil Delvac 1's new formulation includes a more advanced detergent system, dispersency system and anti-wear performance combined with antioxidants to create a carefully designed additive system that offers consumers one of the best products available.
As the premium conventional heavy-duty lubricant in North America, Mobil Delvac 1300 Super provides exceptional performance and protection for heavy-duty diesel engines. Mobil Delvac 1300 Super, the Million Mile Oil, is a cost-effective lubricant that offers many advantages including improved soot control, wear protection, shear stability, piston deposit control, extended drain performance capability, and maximum time between overhaul.
This advanced formulation of Mobil Delvac 1300 Super utilizes Mobil base oil technology that has been scientifically designed in a research laboratory for optimum performance. The specially designed Mobil Delvac 1300 Super advanced formulation offers the highest level of soot dispersency required by the latest industry and OEM specifications while retaining piston cleanliness and engine durability.
Mobil also offers Mobil Delvac 1200 Super that provides a wide range of superior performance abilities particularly for mixed fleet operations. Mobil Delvac 1200 Super was also upgraded to meet the demands of 1999 certified engines while retaining a versatile multi-functional additive system which has been formally approved for highway truck, mixed fleet and urban transient bus applications. Mobil Delvac 1200 Super is currently the only oil supplied by a major oil company that is approved and recommended by Detroit Diesel Corporation (DDC) for use in both 2-cycle and 4-cycle transit bus engine applications.
Mobil, headquartered in Fairfax, Va., is a leading global oil, natural gas and petrochemical company whose subsidiaries have operations in more than 140 countries.
